Anyone from Colorado knows that the 16-25 year old stereotypical Colorado car guy drives some variant of the WRX 9 times out of 10. But how accurate is this stereotype? I took to the streets of a large stretch of road roughly between Denver, Colorado and Holland, MI to find out!
Ok maybe that wasn't my reason for making the trek, but it was certainly eye opening. You see, I don't see the WRX as being a very unique car. Not even an especially special car. Though I'm starting to think this is solely because I grew up looking at so damn many of them!
Let me put it this way. Between Denver, down to OK city, and up to Holland I spotted not 10, not 5, but only 3 other WRX's/STI's. In 3 days, and 1,900 miles.... Ok, not surprising you might say. But then I got home, and everything changed. On a trip from Castle Rock to Boulder (and back), roughly a 40 mile drive each way, I saw 7 others.... In 1.5 hours. I'm starting to think that Colorado is just massively saturated with WRX's. Which would make sense considering how snowy it gets, and how hilly it is. But I can't help but think they would be massively practical in Michigan as well. Yet all anyone seems to buy there are SUV's and FWD cars. Strange.
Anyways. Late night thoughts over. Time for some sleep. Heres another wallpaper sized beauty for those of you that bothered to read this.

You'll see a lot of Rex's and STI's in the New England region as well but surprisingly what you won't see often at all are Evo's. Seriously this entire winter I will probably be able to count all the Evo's I see on one hand, maybe it is just a CT thing. Either way I've been looking for Saab 9-3 Turbo Xs (manual) and the closest one is in Illinois the next two closest were being sold in Texas...who in Texas buys an AWD Swedish car!?!

It's not just WRXs, all AWD cars are popular here, especially Subarus. I see tons of Audis as well, but you'll always notice them more if you drive one or you're looking for them. I look out at the sea of Avants and Outback wagons and think to my self that the manufacturers are crazy to think Americans don't want wagons. Maybe it's just here I guess.
Similar to your story I drove to Branson, MO for a family reunion a couple Sumemrs ago and didn't see a single Audi outside of Colorado, but did see one Gallardo in BFE Kansas.

Very true. I think the only thing near as popular as Subies at my HS was the A4.
